New Position! General Maintenance Technician
- Participate in monthly inspections with management staff to ensure structural integrity and operational efficiency of buildings.
- Perform routine maintenance. Identify maintenance needs and carry out repairs within the scope of the General Maintenance Technician. Communicate with program personnel, program supervisors, and the Chain of Command regarding these repairs.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as household repairs, pressure washing, painting, and general upkeep of residential sites and office spaces as assigned.
- Carry out grounds maintenance, including lawn care, flowerbed upkeep, and snow removal. Take extra care to ensure the grounds are safe and the home is accessible for those who reside in the home.
- Respond to maintenance-related calls and address issues promptly. Track requested repairs, document and track tasks completed, and ensure any necessary follow-up.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and organizational policies related to maintenance operations.
- Adhere to budget guidelines for maintenance and repairs, understanding purchase orders and cost allocations for projects.
- Check stock, determine inventory levels, and anticipate needed maintenance, safety, cleaning, and other assigned supplies. Obtain competitive prices from suppliers where appropriate, to ensure cost effectiveness.
- Demonstrate high professional and ethical standards in all aspects of the job by adhering to all agency policies and procedures including but not limited to, confidentiality of information concerning all people and families served by The Arc and all former and current employees of The Arc. Use a high degree of discretion when in areas that contain confidential information or when dealing with confidential situations
- Maintain a positive, cooperative, and professional relationship with individuals, co-workers, supervisors, volunteers, families, and outside agencies. Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ensure professional boundaries are maintained at all times.
- Attend required training sessions and meetings to stay updated on regulations, required training, and best practices.
- Communicate any issues, concerns, questions, problems, or unusual situations to your chain of command. Report immediate onsite concerns to the program supervisor or the program chain of command. Obtain authorization before removing work materials/agency from The Arc’s property.
- Follow proper procedures for scheduling work shifts, reporting time worked, and follow call-off procedures as per policy.
- Follow appropriate procedures to obtain prior authorization for schedule changes, time off, etc. Make alternative arrangements to ensure coverage for time-sensitive job tasks and/or to provide front desk coverage during planned absences.
- When appropriate, actively participate in the assigned aspects of agency events including preparations, set up, event activities, and tear down.
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and follow, the assigned chain of command. Report any concerns, including Reportable Incidents, in accordance with The Arc’s policies.
Competencies:
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of general maintenance and repair tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical work, HVAC systems, and carpentry. Demonstrate appropriate discretion regarding seeking professional contractors. Display knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in building maintenance. Demonstrate knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related accessibility-building standards (or the ability to gain competency in this area).
- Attention to Detail: Ability to identify potential problems and ensure thoroughness in repairs and inspections. Ability to follow through on tasks to completion. Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to evaluate complex issues, think critically, and provide practical solutions to maintenance challenges.

Utilize basic computer skills necessary to communicate using email, access needed information, carry out video calls, and attend meetings remotely. Ability to conduct research using the internet, navigate websites, and order supplies online.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- (3) years of previous experience in general maintenance, facilities management, or a related field; five (5) years of prior experience is preferred. Any equivalent amount of experience, certification, or related education may be substituted for professional experience with the approval of the CEO.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials and equipment and other manual tasks that may require kneeling, twisting, and shoveling.
- A valid driver’s license, safe driving history, and reliable transportation may be required.
- Flexible schedule availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to respond to emergency maintenance issues during off-duty hours when necessary.
