Supported Living

The Arc of Centre County
Supported Living Services
Supporting Independence, Choice, and Community Inclusion
What is Supported Living?
Supported Living is a person-centered service that helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live as independently as possible while receiving the support they need to be successful in their homes and communities.
Unlike traditional residential services, Supported Living allows individuals to live in a home of their choosing while receiving individualized supports tailored to their unique goals, strengths, preferences, and needs.
At The Arc of Centre County, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to direct their own life, make meaningful choices, and participate fully in their community.

What Makes Supported Living Different?
Many people are familiar with traditional residential group homes, but Supported Living offers a different approach that places greater emphasis on individual choice, independence, and self-direction.
Supported Living
In Supported Living, the individual:
- Chooses where they live and who they live with.
- Holds the lease, owns the home, or has another arrangement that gives them control over their living situation.
- Receives supports that are tailored to their unique needs and goals.
- Directs many aspects of their daily life, including schedules, activities, and routines.
- Maintains greater independence while receiving the assistance needed to be successful.
- 24/7 On-Call support for emergencies from someone they know and who knows them.
- Assist with medical care including scheduling, and attending appointments, filling prescriptions and self-medication.
The support follows the individual, not the residence.
The Goal of Supported Living
Supported Living is designed to help individuals live as independently as possible while remaining safe, healthy, and connected to their communities. Supports are individualized and can increase or decrease over time as a person's needs change.
At The Arc of Centre County, we believe that every individual should have the opportunity to live in the home of their choosing, make meaningful decisions about their life, and receive the support necessary to achieve their personal goals.
Simply put: In a group home, people move into a program. In Supported Living, the support moves to the person.
